Garden Path

Garden

This is the path as it was in June 2004 before we bought the house. Pavias with gravel infill - diffcult to walk along and it was messy.

July 2005

I had removed most of the original path as I needed the pavias for the driveway. In this photo, we have laid out the (reclaimed) slabs and pavias to see what it would look like.

January 2006

Using a friend's inexpensive laser level we staked out the edges and fixed shuttering ply to form the lefthand border edge.

Both edges

The shuttering ply for both edges is set here. We had reshaped the path a little from the orignal setting it closer to the border.

Hardcore

Fortuantely I had collected some over the last few months while the street pavements were relaid.

Concrete

Laying the concrete onto the hardcore with a notched spreader...

Half complete

I had run out of cement and ballast at this point and it was getting late, so I covered it over and called it a day.

The second half of the path went down much more quickly with two of us working on it. The concrete base is hard enough to walk on now.
