With the new bathroom on the first floor now at the front of the house and the thermal store and boiler downstairs in what will be the utilit room, I coudl take merge the old boiler rooom and old bathroom into one. I have no photos showing the removal of the stud wall between the two rooms, but it was a messay job removing the ver crumbly paster and lathfrom 4 wall faces and from the ceiling. I also had to remove the old bath, basin and WC while keeping all the exisitn gplumbing working. These pictures show what I did next.
 Old chimney breast
There had alwasy been a draught and this is where it had been coming from! The bricks at the bottom had slipped.

 Old chimney breast
Bricked up, the lower bricks - which fell out - were replaced and a hole left for a vent.
|
 Floor joists
The old bathroom had lots of pipes and these had been run in notches in the joists. I removed all the old pipes and over filled the notches with new timber then planed them down once the glue had set.
|
 Stabilising rod
There should have been noggins between the joists according to the plans but there were none and so I fitted new bits of 8x2 and screwed them into place.
|
 New ceiling
The old ceiling above the boiler room was in a very poor state, so I re-plasterboarded it (after running in some audio cables for the bathroom above)
|
 Ceiling completed
Double boarded to match exisitng ceiling level, just needs skimming now.
|
Wall between studa and back bedroom
With new sheep's wool insulation - mostly for noise but partly for heat. I also put new battens on the floor to reduce noise and dust between the rooms which had been a problem beforehand.
|
 Wall plasterboarded.
|
Where the bath taps used to be
Though difficult to see, there are bricks missing here between the joists.
|
 Bath head end repaired
New brickwork - the joists were also treated hence the darker colour - though I saw no evidence of any problems.

 Waste and soil pipes before
|
 Gone!
Waste pipes removed and holes filled, and soil pipe removed and bricked up.

 Old soil pipe bricked up
OK, not very neat...
