I love maps and think GPS is amazing (even though I more or less understand how it works)
The UK Ordnance survey 1:50000 Landranger are my favourites. The 1:25000 are great for detail but I find the 1:50000 have a better balance for size versus coverage. I use maps for off and on-road cycling.
I made a map carrier for my bike so that I did not have to stop and get the map out as often. I am not a brilliant metalworker and I do not have access to sheet folders etc so I made it primarily out of wood. It looks a little odd next to the high techery of my modern mountain bike, but it is lightweight and most importantly IT WORKS!
